7 City toilets close Print E-mail

14th October

In move designed to get the City Council's budget back under control, the Labour run Council Executive Council tonight agreed to shut seven of the city’s public toilets.

The sites that will shut are: Castle Street; Littlemore; Woodstock Road; South Parade; Barns Road; Knight’s Road; and Headington Hill Park (disabled).

Charges will also be made for some of the remaining City Centre toilets.

"Years of under-investment in the City's toilets combined with the need to make huge budget cuts have led to these devastating closures. The Greens have objected to these closures as, despite Labour making promises to provide alternative provision (for example, by entering into deals to use restaurant, shop and cafe facilities),  no firm plans are in place." says Green Councillor Craig Simmons.
