Greens urge action on Flood Risk Print E-mail

11th January 2010

Oxford Green Councillors have contacted the Environment Agency expressing concern that the potential flood risk from melting snow is not monitored. With the Cherwell and Isis already running high, the Greens fear that a rapid thaw upstream could lead to flooding in the City. The Greens have asked the Environment Agency to look into this and to provide an early warning and risk assessment of this eventuality so that the City Council, and other agencies, can be proactive to prevent damage to properties and people.

Much of Oxford is at a generally high risk of flooding.

It is approximately 12 months since the last EA flood warning in Oxford. Records show that around this time each year the City is particularly prone to flooding.
