Green proposal for affordable city housing blocked by Lab & LibDems |
|
|
|
Green Cllr Sushila Dhall proposed a motion that the City Council
reconsider the Westgate Development, but was voted down by both Labour
and LibDem Councillors.
They refused to re-consider their
plans to expand shopping on the Westgate site - rather than provide
affordable housing.
Westgate
Development – Progress (Proposer – Councillor Dhall)
“Given that the
planning permission for the Westgate area lapses this Autumn (after
three years) and that no building work has been started, and in light of
the continuing economic downturn, Council resolves to asks the
Executive to return to the drawing board to look at the site again with a
view to providing public/community space, more affordable housing, and
small business units on the site.”
