Former Labour Councillor backs Green |
|
|
8th September Peter Fisher, former Labour County Councillor (a Cllr for 12 years and Labour Party member for 29) and President of the NHS Consultants' Assocaition is publicly backing the Green Party candidate in the forthcoming Oxford City Council by-election (Lye Valley - 21st September)
Green candidate Dr. Larry Sanders, already the County Councillor for the nearby East Oxford Division, and chair of the local Keep Our NHS Public campaign is making support for the NHS a mainstay of his election campaign.
Says Cllr Sanders "I very much welcome the support of well respected and high profile people such as Peter Fisher. Like me, Peter recognises the vital importance of protecting the NHS from further privatisation, fragmentation, cuts and redundancies. This Government is destroying our health service and, if elected, I will work with my other Green Party colleagues to oppose Labour's flawed plans for the NHS."
The City Council's Health Committee is currently chaired by New Labour Councillor Joe McManners. Labour's position on the City is so precarious that, if Cllr Sanders were elected, then Labour would no longer be able to hold on to the Committee Chair.
