Tories doubt climate change Print E-mail

19th September 2006

Leading Conservative Councillors on Oxfordshire County Council stunned the Green Councillors present by casting doubt on the existence of climate change during a debate at a full meeting of Council on 12th September.

Doubters included Cllr Steve Hayward (member for Witney – which falls within David Cameron’s constituency), a member of the Children’s Services Committee.

Says Green Councillor Deborah Glass-Woodin, who also sits on the Children’s Services Committee “How remarkable that someone with responsibility for children’s services is taking one of the major threats to their future welfare so lightly. Climate change is a real and immediate threat that requires cross-party action to address. I think that the view of the County’s Tories reflects the view of many Conservative rank and file – so much for David Cameron’s new found greenness!”
