Stop Press: Greens win in Witney Print E-mail

4th May 2007: The Green Party have won their first seats in Witney. Richard Dossett-Davies has been elected as a Town Councillor for Witney North. Results were also respectable in the District Elections where the Greens came second (with 32%) in the Witney North Ward. This is a 6% increase from the last election. In nearby North Leigh, Andrew Coles, who joined the Greens last year, was also re-elected.

Across the Country the Greens made enormous gains in places where they already had seats demonstarting the popularity of elected Greens. There are now 10 Green Councillors in Norwich, 12 in Brighton and 12 in Lancaster. In Scotland, the Greens also won their first local Council seats in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Says Oxford Green Councillor Craig Simmons, "These results bode well for Oxford City - which has local elections next year. With eight City Councillors, we are well-placed to expand and build on our budget successes."
