County fails to rule out Harwell or Didcot nuclear plant Print E-mail

19th June 2007

Following the release of the Jackson Consulting Report which suggested Harwell/Didcot as a potential site for a new nuclear power plant, Tory, LibDem and Labour County Councillors failed to back a Green Party motion ruling out a new South Oxfordshire nuclear power plant. Instead, the Council backed a LibDem motion which merely asked for 'more information' on the impacts a new nuclear power plant would have on County Council delivered services.

Says Green County Councillor Craig Simmons, who proposed the motion, "This is a missed opportunity to send a strong message to Government on the poor suitability of the Harwell/Didcot area as a location for a new nuclear power station. Tis is a decision with future generations may well come to regret"
