6th April 2006 The Labour Government's refusal to permit an eco-town development at Shipton Quarry (only a few minutes by rail from Oxford) flies in the face of their professed concern for those in housing need. "A sensitive development here would be far more sustainable than the alternative of building another new huge estate in the green belt on the Southern edge of Oxford. But better still would have been to provide more housing on the Westgate site right in the centre of Oxford or to use some of the vacant industrial land within the City for housing. But instead, Labour seem intent on prioritising shops and industry above people." says Green Councillor Nuala Young.
