Tories lose City seats - Greens hold East Oxford |

2nd May 2008 This year's Council elections saw relatively little change in the balance of power within Oxford City. There were few surprises - the most significant changes being the expected loss of the only two Tory seats (gained by defections from the LibDems) and the two gains by Labour from the IWCA. The Tory vote across the City was higher than in recent years but insufficient to win the party any seats. The Greens held the three East Oxford seats of St. Mary's, St. Clement's and Iffley Fields with large majorities but the Greens were unable to hold the student ward of Holywell following the departure of popular former student activist Matt Sellwood. The City Council remains in No Overall Control with Labour on 23 seats, LibDem 16, Green 7 and IWCA 2.
