“Want urgent action on climate change?
Want easily accessible local services (Post Offices, Health care etc)?
Want a more coherent and sustainable planning policy?
We need a Green voice at Westminster.”

Mark Stevenson is a market gardener growing organic fruit and vegetables in Warborough for markets in Oxford and Wallingford. The farm supports a rich biodiversity, including government listed BAP species. Previously he was Head of Maths at an inner city secondary school.
He took an MLitt in Philosophy at Oxford University and has taught ethics and philosophy in the adult education sector.

Mark was an active campaigner for many years in West Oxfordshire, influencing local planning policy and promoting rural cycle routes.  He now lives in Dorchester on Thames with his partner and young daughter and is committed to campaigning on environmental issues in South Oxfordshire. He is a parish councillor and often leads the council on planning matters.  He puts his principles into practice: starting the farm to provide local, quality food; installing solar water heating; and travelling by public transport.

In the last year he has initiated the Dorchester Carbon Project to help reduce the environmental footprint of his community whilst improving quality of life; organised the setting up of a weekly local food market in Wallingford and won planning battles for the village.

Caroline Lucas, MEP,  who represents South Oxfordshire in the European Parliament, said:

"Mark is a tireless champion for Henley. He is a genuine local candidate who is totally committed to Henley and South Oxfordshire. He has already done a great deal for the area, including creating a new producers' market to benefit the local economy, and served with distinction as a parish councillor.
"Henley is a very safe Conservative seat, but a strong vote for Mark would send a strong message to the eventual winner and to the government that Henley wants its local economy and environment protected. It will be a wake-up call to anyone thinking of threatening the area's green belt, post offices, farmers' markets, local shops or public services."

In last year's District Council elections for the Berinsfield ward, Mr Stevenson came second to the Conservatives, well ahead of the Liberal Democrat and Labour candidates. Mr Stevenson first contested the Henley seat in 2005, when he was the only candidate other than Boris Johnson to improve his party's share of the vote.
