County must think again about carbon footprint |

6th October 2008 Two Green motions passed by the City Council today will force the County to think again about reducing the carbon footprint of transport. The first motion demanded that the County revise their recently published update to the bus strategy which omitted to include low carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions as a criteria when awarding bus contracts (although the levels of other pollutants were specified). The second motion called on the County to vary the price of car parking permits according to the CO2 emissions of the registered vehicle. So, for example, a low carbon car would attract a lower permit charge than a more polluting one. The scheme was successfully introduced by Greens in Brighton and has done much to encourage the use of low carbon vehicles.
