Will the Tories really Transform Oxford? Print E-mail

25th October 2008

The Greens have reacted cautiously to surprise plans by the County's Tories to pedestrianise parts of Oxford. Called 'Transform Oxford' the proposals were released without going through the usual Council Committee process, without independent scrutiny and without any consultation with Oxford's residents, businesses or Councillors.

Says Green Group Leader Larry Sanders: "Since the Tories have previously reversed pedestrianisation schemes,  opposed junction improvements for pedestrians and cyclists,  removed car parking charges and  cut cycling targets - I think that we are right to be sceptical, especially as we approach the County elections, of such vague, uncosted and unsubstantiated proposals."
