10th May 2005
Following the massive increase in Green vote at the recent Oxfordshire County Council elections (up from 7% to 11% Countywide and up to 22% across Oxford City) leading to the election of four additional Green Party County Councillors (now 5 seats), the Greens have announced their new County Group Leader and Deputy.
New Group Leader is Dr. Larry Sanders - elected to represent East Oxford Division. Larry has lived in East Oxford for more than 35 years. His two children attended local schools - where Larry served as a school Governor. Larry is a trained social worker and lawyer - now retired from full-time work.
New Group Deputy is Deborah Glass Woodin - elected to represent Isis Division. Deborah is a former City Councillor, mother to Talia and Rafi, and widow of well-known Green Councillor Mike Woodin.
City and County Councillor Craig Simmons (before the election the only Green County Councillor) will continue on in his role as Leader of the seven-strong City Council Green Group and Chair of the East Area Parliament.
