Salma Yaqoob, prominent Birmingham City Councillor and leader of the Respect Party is encouraging people to Vote Green to keep out the BNP. In a statement to the Green Party she commented:
"The racist British National Party is hoping to make a breakthrough in
these elections. Under the system of proportional representation it is
essential that everyone who opposes the BNP uses their vote. The higher
the turnout, the lower the chance of the BNP being elected. Whatever
you do please use your vote against the BNP. But if you care about
peace, justice, equality, anti-racism and the environment, vote Green
in the European elections".
There is a real danger in areas of the Country with long Euro lists; London, the North West and South East regions (the latter covering Oxfordshire) that the BNP could gain a foothold.
This is thankfully looking less likely as support for the BNP appears to be waning in the polls. But, says Green County Leader Cllr. Larry Sanders; "We must not be complacent. A low turnout will favour the BNP. The most important thing decent people can do is get out and vote."
