Prominent Green Councillor Deborah Glass-Woodin was wrongly arrested by police, using uneccessary strong-arm tactics, whilst she was trying to ascertain the legality of tree felling being undertaken for the planned Westgate Development in Oxford City Centre.

The whole incident was witnessed by an Oxford Mail journalist and caught on video.

The Westgate Shopping Development - which will eventually require the felling of more than 40 mature trees - was supported by both Labour and LibDem groups on the City Council. The Greens instead proposed affordable housing on this City-owned central site which would have provided both much-needed homes and allowed for the retention of trees.
