Greens support Park & Ride workers |

23rd June 2007
Oxford City Council Green Group has tabled a motion for the Full Council lmeeting on Monday 25th June, calling for the imposition of 'lone working' at the City Council's Park and Ride sites to be reversed. The Green Group, which supported last month's strike against lone working, is being supported in its stance by the Independent Working Class Association. Councillor Matt Sellwood, who as Deputy Leader of the Green Group is proposing the motion, commented: "Lone working is extremely unpopular, both with our staff and with members of the public who use the Park and Ride sites. While the strike was unsuccessful in forcing the administration to look again at this issue, I hope that this motion will lead to the realisation that the morale, health and safety of our staff is important, and that we should find the funds to maintain our excellent Park and Ride service."
Lone working was introduced in order to save the City Council £100,000, but the Green Group argues that as the council has over £3.5 million in reserves, it could easily make up the shortfall without cutting the terms and conditions of its staff.
