Oxfordshire County Council is currently considering whether to pursue incineration as part of its waste management strategy. This form of waste treatment is often called ‘energy-from-waste’ (EfW) where electricity is
produced as part of the incineration process.

One common argument in favour of EfW is that it is somehow a ‘green’ form of nergy that can significantly contribute to meeting Oxfordshire’s energy needs. his is often used to justify the pursuit of incineration as a technology.

The question as to how much useful energy we could produce from Oxfordshire’s domestic waste has not been clearly answered. This Green Party report carefully calculates, using the County’s own figures, the proportion of Oxfordshire’s energy that could actually be met from EfW technologies. It finds that the contribution would be trivial.
